Amateur theatre and drama in Eccles

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I join Barton Theatre Company ?
A: Come and see one of our shows, if you like what you see then contact one of the front of house staff, identified by their badges, after the show. Alternatively come down to see a rehearsal at Peel Green Community Centre (St Michaels) on Mondays or Thursdays between 8:30 and 10:30PM. You can email us but please be aware that an immediate response may not be possible.   Local libraries normally carry lists of drama groups in your area. BTC are listed in Eccles and all Salford libraries.

Q: Where do you perform ?
A: BTC have several venues. We have performed at Buile Hill Performance Arts Centre (part of Buile Hill High School), Eccles Old Road, Salford. Recently (2001) we have been back to our home of 21 years St Michaels Community Centre and Social Club, Peel Green, Patricroft, Eccles. However our latest show is being produced at Robert Powell Theatre at Salford University

Q: Do you accept scripts ?
A: No. We get lots of emailed scripts and scenarios sent to us. We are an amateur dramatics company and do not have funding to pay new script writers. Therefore we put them straight into the trash because of the volumes involved. We stick to commercially published scripts (Samuel French etc.) or in house written stuff. Simply put do not send us anything as it will not be read...

Q: Do you have any paid jobs ?
A: No. We are an amateur dramatics company not a commercial theatre company.

Q: When is the next show ?
A: See the home page

Q: Who is George Stitt ?
A: Who indeed. George is the resident keyboard, sound and lighting guru for the society. He has been known to tread the boards, set dress, paint sets and stage manage. He is an all round good guy who is indispensable. He has more electronic equipment in his truck than many small recording studios have.

Q: How did you get the car into the theatre in Just Between Ourselves?
A: For those people who didn't see the show. The car was an Austin Metro. We had the engine, gearbox and fuel tank removed. The safety barrier outside the hall and the internal entrance doors were removed. About 8 to 10 guys then turned the car onto its side and slid it through the door opening. Once inside the hall the car was then righted onto its wheels and pushed into position. The sills were full of water and we had a minor flood (the car was from a scrapyard and had been outside for a long time) There was very little damage to the car and a microphone was installed inside. The engine bay had a powerful loudspeaker placed inside and the sound of the engine was piped to it from the sound system. A smoke machine was installed and the show was ready to go. The car was 3rd prize in the raffle and yours to take home if you could get it out of the building.
